The First thing noticed is this design is composed of 3 colors:
- Black – Represents the beautiful Minnesota night sky
- Blue – Represents the beloved Minnesota water from our “10,000 Lakes”
- White – Represents our snowy winters
The design also incorporates 2 easily noticed objects:
- Polaris (the north star) – Representing Minnesota’s nickname “The North Star State” which alludes to our rich history and old flag.
- The Loon(s) – Representing Minnesota’s state bird with a baby loon on it’s back representing Minnesota’s value of love and/or family.
What’s new, different, and better vs the old flag:
- Clean & simple design consisting of 3 bold colors
- No letters, numbers, or phrases
- Flag looks just as good backwards as it does forward
- No negative symbolism towards the Native American people
